AWARDS & ACHIEVEMENTS

.

Jan 2007.  Communications Award, ESRI, Health/GIS Conference (Received for developing an effective way to map West Nile ecology in relation to West Nile cases–predictive modeling of positive testing vectors and hosts)

Winter 2008-9.  A Grounded Theory/Text Analysis Study of Insomnia Cases and Appropriate Treatment Protocols.  This was a first of its kind application of Grounded Theory/Text-Analysis used to develop a standardized repeatable research approach to evaluating standardized CME case study reports; used to document learning success as demonstrated by changes in clinical performance in use by practitioners.  Applied Grounded Theory and Text-Reading Automation tool developed, for researching text responses provided about Pre-Post-Long term CME Follow-up study of Insomnia Case management; documented long term results of the CME program devoted to Insomnia management, in which PCPs:  i) followed through with appropriate initial patient  contact and sleep history query steps, ii) implemented a standard survey tool for patients, iii) provided appropriate care, iv) engaged in appropriate and recommended insomnia education protocols, v) made a sleep lab testing recommendation where appropriate, with follow-up visit required for sleep apnea patients, vi) engaged in appropriate diagnostics and counseling recommendations, vii) ceased inappropriate use of prescription and OTC drugs or nutritional supplements by patient, vii) applied new diagnostic flowchart, ix) recommended relaxation therapy, and x) recommended Melatonin use or prescribed Melatonin-replacer prescription drugs to their patients where appropriate.

December 2006.   Perfect score (100%) on Performance Improvement Project application/program submission,  Colorado Medicaid/Medicare Managed Care Program.  Childhood Immunization NCQA project developed, using standardized PIP reporting tool.  Well-visits were included in metrics for correlation with Immunization Rates and development of an new intervention letter campaign/program.

2004-2007.  Denver Health Managed Care, Denver Health Medical Plan, Inc.  Numerous STAR awards received.

September 1982-March 1983.  TOXIDROM.  1982 non-hierarchical database, developed in CPM/SYS, Sanyo MBC 1100 Desktop with 4kb non-DOS (CPM/SYS) harddrive (14″ Brothers Daisy Wheel Printer); Operating System: SBasic, with Dbase Datastar Software.  Datastar programming and testing lasted from September 1982 to March 1983, when end product was developed into a marketable database called Toxidrom.  Toxidrom was revamped several times, incl. CPM-to-DOS Conversion in 1989/1990, followed by upgrades in 1990 for database version and content sold to AM’RTA, Inc. in 1991; incorporated into IBIS/TM software program, 1991-2. IBIS was introduced to the market in 1992, as a diagnostic-treatment-clinical notetaking/EMR tool for physicians.  IBIS is still in use, promoted and sold by its founder as of 2013, with more than 31 years of marketing history and use.  Mitchell Stargrove is the original founder and creator of this idea for a software diagnostics-treatment tool for clinicians; AMRTA IBIS development team consisted of about 200 individuals in the numerous traditional, nutriceutical and American and non-American CAM professions reviewed by this tool.

Raster Medical ICD/Patient Mapping

  • Mapping ICDs: applications for a new US Population Health Grid Mapping Methodology.  An innovative non-GIS mapping algorithm was developed for displaying any data spatially in 3D for use in spatial analyses.  For the examples provided, ICDs distributions were tested using post-retirement age ICDs, Great Lakes area child-mother care and abuse ICD associations, socioculturally/poverty SES-related V15.81 non-compliance behaviors, lat-long relationships for Cold-induced hemagglutination syndromes, heat exhaustion, MS, fungal and animal vectored diseases, and other conditions normally linked to environmental features, along with culturally related patterns such as African cardiomyopathy, sickle cell and Takotsubo and culturally-bound syndromes like infibulation and SUNDS. Jan–Aug

Developed database on toxins; tested for use in identification of syndromes based on symptomatology/clinical signs.  Sanyo MBC 1100 PC, 2kb HD.  Jan 1983–May 1985.

RESEARCH: A mechanism for the formation of Long Island Iron Concretions (Indian Paint Pots).

The formation of Iron Concretions (Indian Paint Pots) on Long Island due to a combination of historical landform events in combination with local climatic and meteorologic history and local vegetation natural history events.  Stony Brook University, Earth and Space Sciences, SUNY Stony Brook, MOLINS, Stony Brook, NY.  Sep 1980–Jun 1982

RESEARCH: Use of a Birth Control/STD Student Health Services Clinic.

Stony Brook University, Psychology, SUNY Stony Brook, EROS Clinic, Infirmary Building, Stony Brook, NY.

Utilization of the on-campus birth control counseling/STD testing Gynecology/Birth Control clinic monitored and statistically reported on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.  Identified peaks in utilization and pregnancy rates peaking at 5 to 6 weeks into each semester, followed by abortion counseling visits. Pregnancy rates remained stable at about 15-25 pregnancies per semester (1-2 per week average, 6-8 per week peak), with gynecology/counseling visit rates ranging from 75-100 per week, for a population of approximately 30K (male and female) undergraduate and graduate students.

RESEARCH: Squid Axon Na+-K+ Channel Physiology.  Squid Axon Na+-K+ exchange channel and end-receptor physiology were reviewed in relation to application of a variety of neurotoxins, including triethanolamine (TEA), tetrodotoxin (TTX), crude conotoxin (conus toxin or CTX), ouabain, strophanthidin G, and relatives. Application of the Michaelis-Menton equation. Stony Brook University, Biology Department, SUNY at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY.  Jan 1977–May 1977

RESEARCH: Impacts of Landuse Patterns on Wappinger Falls Lake Ecology.  Stony Brook University, Environmental Engineering, SUNY Stony Brook, Stony Brook, NY.

Impacts of the following on local riparian-lake ecology: species types and diversity, crop types and agricultural runoff patterns, population history, chemical release history by local 19th C factories, current factory/industry history and location, current soil type and distribution along a 15 mile tributary, topography and water runoff patterns.  December 1977-June 1977.
